Audience Feedback on GoAnimate

Here I have decided use the same people from my first video draft audience feedback, to see what they now think of my new music video now that changes have been made. It consists of 3 males and 3 females and I have also used the same questions to see the exact changes in what they though (apart from the first question which had to be changed). The age range I have used has two people over my target audience ages 30 and 57, to get an older generations opinion on my music videos.

Here is my audience feedback from the same 15 year old male. The top feedback form is from my first video draft and bottom form is for my final music video. The feedback from my 1st video is very different to what it is now. Straight away I can see for my new video they understand the narrative and think that my male and female talent look a lot more natural. There are many differences I can see to, especially from the ratings at the end, where at first they rated it a 3, but has now gone up by 5 number to be a 7/8. From my new video feedback he actually like cinematography and think it's 'Good' and can see that I have more mise en scene in this video as apposed to my last video, as he have said I have used it 'Well'. Even though he like my music video I have found that he wouldn't purchase either of them off iTunes. Furthermore he said that his least favorite thing about my video was that it was all filmed in one place and that he liked the beginning the most where it flicks between the boy and the girl. Now in my new video he said that he likes the story to it the most and the answer to what he likes the least is 'Nothing really', so he now likes it more then he dislikes it. For the improvements he answered that nothing needs improving on my final video but on my first video said I needed more shots and to shoot in more than one place.

Then I got audience feedback from a 17 year old male. He has also understood that the narrative of my video and thought that the talents look natural as well. For the genre he put Pop/Indie. I think this is because it includes some Indie music video conventions such as 'walking' when the boy is giving the girl piggy back and walking away at the end. Although first off he said he thought it was in the Pop genre when watching my first music video draft. In terms of cinematography he said to my first draft that it wasn't good because there wasn't many shots. Then for my new video he said it was good because I used a mixture of different shots. For the mise en scene question in the for the first draft he said that there wasn't any apart from the lighting and now he has said that the mise en scene has been used well, which makes it look more natural. His score out of 10 went from a 2 to a 9 from the first draft to the final video. However he also said that he wouldn't purchase either of them off iTunes. For the most and least favorite things about my first video draft he didn't have any parts that he liked the most and his least favorite thing about my video was that I didn't use many shots. His favorite thing now is how the picture goes into the scene and his least favorite he said 'Nothing' as he didn't not like anything. Then for improvements to my first video draft he said that I could get the timings better and add more shots but now in my new video he said that he doesn't think anything needs improving on.

This feedback is from an 18 year old female who gave my first video a 2/3 out of 10 and for my second video a 9. She showed that she understood the genre of my new video and that both videos had a Pop genre. Another similarity between these two feedback forms is that she thought in both videos the male and female talent both looked natural. She was the only one out of everyone who thought that they looked natural in the first music video. However she has said more about how natural they look in the second video to the first video. At first she thought that my first video needed improving by including more shots and should be shot in different places. Now she thinks that there is no improvements needed. She has said that my cinematography and mise en scene work really well and that the cinematography looks better now there is more than one type of shot. From my first video she said that the cinematography and mise en scene did not work well at all. In terms of purchasing my new music video off iTunes she said that she would, however said she wouldn't purchase my old draft of music video.

I then got a 21 year old male to answer my questionnaire. He said that he understood the narrative of my final video and thought that the genre was Pop/Indie, but said it was just Pop for my first video draft just like my 17 year old male. For the first video he didn't think my male and female talent looked natural, yet in my new video I have now he thinks that they do, as they act natural around each other which makes it more believable. He thinks that nothing needs improving about my new music video but thought that I could of used more cinematography and shot in more than one place in my first draft video. The rating scores also changed from his first answer to my first video as he gave it a 2 out of 10. Now he has gave my new video an 8 out of 10, 6 places higher then before. In terms of cinematography and mise en scene he said that I have used them very well as well as ok. First off he said I had not used them very well in draft 1. Furthermore he said that he would purchase my new video off iTunes but wouldn't purchase my first one. Additionally he didn't say anything for what he liked the most in old music video and said it's quite boring for what he liked the least. However he said he liked the narrative and flashback scenes the most and that they flow well because it keeps going back to the girl, where you get to see her reactions to.

Next I asked some one who was female of 30 years of age to answer my questions. She again understood that it was a narrative based video I done for my final video and that my first one was performance based. And again she said that both of the videos genres where Pop. In my first video she thought that the talents did not look natural and said they had just one expression, which is unnatural. However in my final video she said they both looked genuine together as if they wasn't faking it. For the improvements/changes question she answered yes to both. Then answer to the first video draft was that I should film in a different place and get them to do more instead of just standing there and to use more cinematography. The answer to the new video was that the scene I used at the beginning was quite long, although it does work with the music. The second answer wasn't as bad as the first one and it didn't have as much to improve on. When I asked about cinematography and mise en scene, she said that the cinematography I used really well with a variety of shots and that the mise en scene looks good. In answer to my first video draft she said I hadn't used the mise en scene very well and that there wasn't really any mise en scene. For the cinematography she also said not very well. When it came to answering what she liked the most and what she liked the least about my videos she didn't answer to what she liked most about my first music video draft and said it was boring for what she least liked about my first video. The answers became more positive when it got to the final video, where she instead said 'Nothing' to what she liked the least and that she liked that you can see the girl in the future along with her reactions, to what she liked most. Lastly she said she would purchase my new music video of iTunes but not my old one but she would purchase new one. The scores from the ratings also changed from a 1/2 at first to a 9 for my new video.

Finally I got someone of 57 years of age to answer my questions. She answered 'Pop' to both music videos genres and saw that my first video was performance based and that my second one had a narrative to it, to which she understood the narrative. In my first video draft she also did not think that the male and female talent looked natural but looked uncomfortable instead. Although in my final video she said that they did look natural and that they were very convincing and genuine, as if they had new each other for a long time. She said that my final video did not need any improvements made yet my first video she said that the talent shouldn't just stand there, I needed to use more places to film and that the lighting and cinematography needed to change. To the cinematography and mise en scene questions in the first video feedback questions she answered not very well to both. The answers to the final video did change, where she said that the cinematography was very good and had a wide range of shots and that I had used the mise en scene very well. Furthermore to what she liked most in my first video, there was no answer given and to what she liked least she said that it was all in one place and they wasn't doing anything. Whereas to the final video she said 'Nothing' to what she liked least and she liked how my video tells a story, how it was filmed and it matches the lyrics. Again to the first video she said she wouldn't purchase it of iTunes but would purchase my final video, just like many of the other people I got to answer this questionnaire. Her rating for the first video started off at 2 then went all the way up to 10 for my final video.

Now that I have looked back on what people originally said, to what they have said now, I have learnt that changing the video from a performance based video, to a narrative one, was the best idea because it let me change a lot of other features like mise en scene, cinematography and come up with ideas for more scenes. Seeing that some people describe my first draft of video was boring, was another reason I changed it to narrative. The song I chose is quite slow and can seem sad, so having people just stood there singing to it makes it not very interesting so is easy to get bored of. Whereas my new music video has a narrative so instead of paying attention to the song to much you are watching the video to see what happens. I also think making the different scenes happy helped the actual song seem happier overall, even though there is a small twist at the end that isn't as happy.

I have also learnt that the males who answered the questions, two out of the three said that they would not buy my new music video off iTunes, but one did. Out of the females all of them said they would purchase my new video off iTunes. This shows me that my main target audience of females was correct and that only some boys would buy it to. I learnt that my first videos ratings started off low around the 1, 2 and 3 area and my new video went up to the 8, 9, 10 end of the scale, which was a big improvement to my first video. From the feedback I got from my first music video overall I found that I needed to include more cinematography and mise en scene in terms of better lighting and more variety of shots; to have my male and female talent acting more natural; to use different scenes and to have them doing more instead of just standing there. I took all this on board and made sure included a wider range of shots and added in more props for the mise en scene; to get my male and female acting more natural, which I think they did because they where in the shots together and not constantly alone. Coming up with my new idea I made sure that I had a lot more scenes to work with, so they where not just standing there. From the feedback I received after adding and making all these changes, I learnt that I had done well with the cinematography and mise en scene improvements and that only one out of the six people had something to say for what that they liked the least about my music new music video. Plus only one out of six people again said I needed to make an improvement on what I had done.

Over all I learnt that taking the first lot of audience feedback for my first music video, really helped me to be able to improve on my new music video. Then when I went back to asking the same questions, to the same people, about my new music video, I learnt that they also noticed these changes I had made and that all the answers had become a lot more positive.

This is my first draft for my CD and magazine promotional poster. I have chose to use similar images for both so that my audience can see that the poster links with the CD. For the white rose images I used, I got off google from this website: http://fin6.com/2013/09/white-rose-image-2014/. I thought that the softness of the rose would link in with the rest of my images and that the texture of it would look good on a CD. When editing the photos of my talent I changed the levels and curves on Photoshop and for my poster image I changed it into black and white to give a different contrast to the coloured image that I have used for the CD album cover. I also changed the Hue and Saturation to make the images lighter/softer, then put a photofilter over the top to brighten it up and give it a hint of colour rather than it being so white. When editing the sky for the back of the album cover I changed the levels to brighten up the sky and make it more blue and the clouds more white.

There are still many improvements I need to make to my Digipak.
Improvements:
- Change the photo for my poster and make it a full length shot, but still have it soft with the same lighting to makle it match up
- I'm not going to use the image of the sky for the back cover but another image of my talent
- I need to add more to my poster so it is not so simple- I need to make it stand out more
